Clothing items
To stay warm and comfortable on your trip, you will need the right clothing at the resort, village, viewing from a chairlift or on the slopes. Here is a general guide on what to wear.
You will need to put on layers of items including snow/ski boots, thermal underwear, a light wool or fleece top, ski socks, a ski jacket, ski pants, gloves or mittens, a ski helmet and ski goggles. The layers are important for all outdoor sports especially skiing and snowboarding.
Base layer
Regardless of the activity, start by wearing a breathable base layer. These are known by various names such as long johns, thins, skins, etc. This is basically a long-sleeved top plus long-john style pants – is the foundation of every good winter sports outfit - to keep you warm and wick away sweat.
Mid layer
The mid-layer is worn to maintain your body heat. This can be a light insulated jacket or fleece, worn over the base layer. Please ensure you wear the appropriate mid-layer by checking if your jacket already has a fleece lining or synthetic filling. You don't want to be boiling hot whilst heading down the runs or making your way through fresh powder.
Outer layer
This would be your ski jacket. The jacket needs to be windproof to protect you from the elements during your mountain activities. Whether you choose to ride the chairlifts to envoy the sights or travel down the mountain during your activities, the jacket will be your main source of protection so be sure to invest in a good quality jacket (rental or purchase). The jackets are usually waterproofed but please check to ensure you get the right one. We have found Gore-Tex jackets to be really usefull and there are a few fancy jacket brands to check out if you are not limited to rentals. My favorites at the moment are the Dope snow and Helly Hansen jackets.
Lastly, sunscreen is an important part of a complete sun protection as well as your goggles.
